Three Gradients of Physiological Importance

Concentration Gradient
If:
1.The concentration in AREA 1 is different from the concentration in AREA 2
2.The concentration in AREA 1 is greater than the concentration in AREA 2.

Then

1.  Movement will occur from area 1 to area 2.
2.  If we allow it to move unencumbered, equilibrium would be reached.

Pressure Gradient
If:
1.The pressure in AREA 1 is different from the pressure in AREA 2
2.The pressure in AREA 1 is greater than the pressure in AREA 2.

Then

1.  Movement will occur from area 1 to area 2.
2.  If we allow it to move unencumbered, equilibrium would be reached.

Temperature Gradient
If:
1.The temperature in AREA 1 is different from the temperature in AREA 2
2.The temperature in AREA 1 is greater than the temperature in AREA 2.

Then

1.  Movement will occur from area 1 to area 2.
2.  If we allow it to move unencumbered, equilibrium would be reached.
